LINES / MANAGEMENT AND CONNECTIONS

A line cannot find a path

Release manual and player reports checked October 2, 2026. Mouse and keyboard controls; source-based guidance, not our own playtest. Later builds or controller layouts can differ.

Select the red segment and read its warning before rebuilding

Open Line Manager, select the affected line and hover the red exclamation mark beside the broken segment. Then inspect Select Terminals: its arrows distinguish a terminal that cannot be reached from one that cannot be left. This is different from a valid train route waiting for occupied track.

What to do

  1. Back up a valuable save and record the exact warning. Select only the affected line so its stop sequence and route are unambiguous. Start with the first segment flagged red, not the entire map.
  2. Hover the segment warning for its details. Open Select Terminals at the affected stop and note whether the problem is on arrival or departure. Check the previous stop, the assigned terminal and the following stop as one short chain.
  3. Inspect that chain in the direction of travel. For rail, trace the actual approach, crossover and departure connection to the assigned platform. In the release-player discussion, a visually simple double-track route still failed; changing a platform without inspecting access was not enough.
  4. Check the line list for the same station twice consecutively or a stop of an incompatible carrier. These are documented line problems. For an unreachable waypoint, reposition the offending point on a usable route rather than adding more points to the broken segment.
  5. If only a newly bought vehicle cannot reach the line, inspect its depot connection separately. The manual says a cloned vehicle may be created at a compatible depot that is not connected to that line; the clone action does not build an access route.
  6. Change one diagnosed connection or stop selection, inspect the preview again and follow a vehicle through the repaired segment and return. Leave occupied-track waiting to the signal checklist once the connection warnings are gone.

How to tell it worked

The affected red connection warning disappears, the intended route is displayed and a compatible vehicle traverses the segment in the required direction. A different vehicle remaining at a red signal can be a separate reservation or traffic problem.

If you are still stuck

The line previews correctly but a train waits: check occupied reservations and alternative terminals. The preview still fails: re-read the arrival/departure arrow and inspect only that chain. Preserve the warning, build, active mods and a route screenshot for support; no universal track-demolition fix is established.
