Build an underground tram line

September 2026 creator preview, with release manual controls checked October 2, 2026. Exact options can differ by build; no universal tunnel depth or cargo-station capability is claimed.

Use the passenger underground stop and connect a surface depot

SeniacTWO's recorded setup uses the road-vehicle Underground Stop, standalone tram track below ground and a surface tram depot joined to that track. The stop provides a surface exit. This is an underground passenger tram service; lowering an ordinary railway station is not the same construction.

What to do

  1. In the road-vehicle station tools, choose Underground Stop. Position its surface entrance on an accessible street near the intended passengers. Place another stop at the destination, keeping the platform orientation aligned with the planned tunnel.
  2. Select standalone tram track from the road tools. Use Underground Mode in the construction panel or press G on keyboard. Adjust the height and slope until the preview connects the station platforms without terrain or curve errors.
  3. Connect the underground track back to the surface and to a tram depot. The recorded example has no underground depot option. Toggle Underground Mode off when you need the construction to snap to above-ground infrastructure.
  4. Create a passenger line through the stops and buy a suitable passenger tram from the connected depot. Check electricity and any tram-to-rail capability required by the actual route, rather than choosing a cargo tram by appearance.
  5. Run one tram and follow its entire route. Inspect passengers using the entrance and boarding below ground before extending the network. The preview's chosen depth is specific to that layout, not a required value for every town.

How to tell it worked

A compatible tram reaches the underground stops from its depot, boards passengers and completes the return journey. The surface entrance remains accessible. Check actual ridership and line costs before adding a second direction or more stations.

If you are still stuck

Tram stays in the depot: inspect the continuous surface-to-tunnel path and electrification. Empty station: check the entrance's passenger access. Track will not snap above ground: leave Underground Mode. Passenger stops do not become cargo terminals merely because a cargo tram can use the track.
