Vehicles getting slower or dirtier?

Maintenance needs range and spare capacity

Vehicles are repaired automatically while within a suitable maintenance facility’s range, provided its capacity is not exhausted. Neglected vehicles gradually become slower, noisier and more polluting. Check whether the line actually enters that range and whether the facility can handle the fleet; do not assume a building anywhere on the map services every vehicle.

What to do

  1. Inspect the affected vehicle and journey. Look at its available condition information and observe where it travels. Record the slow/noisy vehicle you are trying to fix so you can compare it after the change.
  2. Check the appropriate maintenance facility. Confirm the facility is suitable for the service you are inspecting. The announced rule refers to appropriate facilities; it does not establish that one maintenance building works for every transport mode.
  3. Check the route against the facility’s coverage. Follow the vehicle itself. A facility close to a line on the map may still miss its route. Urban Games suggests using waypoints to make vehicles pass maintenance facilities from time to time.
  4. Check facility capacity. The developer explicitly limits automatic repair to facilities whose capacity is not exhausted. Review the facility’s available information and the vehicles it serves; if service stays insufficient, test added appropriate capacity rather than replacing every vehicle first.
  5. Observe the same vehicle after covered operation. Compare condition feedback and operating behavior after it has passed through coverage. If the journey is slower for another reason, inspect dock queues, traffic and rail conflicts separately.

How to tell it worked

The vehicle actually operates inside the suitable facility’s coverage with available capacity, and its condition or maintenance feedback improves. Exact repair time, coverage radius and condition thresholds are not published in the cited explanation, so there is no universal waiting-time promise.

If you are still stuck

  • The facility exists but condition keeps falling: Check suitability, actual route coverage and capacity individually. Existence of the building is not proof of service.
  • A waypoint makes freight late: Compare the detour with cargo deadlines or consider facility placement/capacity along the useful route.
  • Noise or pollution stays low-rated: Maintenance is one source to check. Inspect industries and infrastructure in the environment guide.
  • Condition improves but vehicles still move slowly: Investigate loading, access roads, congestion and reservations; not every delay is deterioration.
