When do you need a warehouse?
Urban Games says platforms, ports and stations do not store freight between lines. Its developer answer uses fish moving from a ship to a shore truck as an example: the handoff needs warehouse storage even if the fish leaves immediately. Freight delivered straight to a town or industry consumer is the stated exception. The developer also describes modular warehouses that store and transfer cargo and can specialize in four cargo categories.
Check the transfer in order
- Identify the handoff. Name the line bringing cargo in and the line taking it out. If the first vehicle is empty, inspect its origin and loading point; the empty station guide covers that earlier fault.
- Provide storage at the change of line. Put a warehouse by the incoming stop and outgoing cargo stop. That arrangement is visible in the ship-to-truck fish preview. Check that any category specialization matches the cargo you are moving. The preview does not establish a universal connection distance.
- Run both legs. Check that the incoming vehicle unloads at the handoff and that a suitable cargo vehicle on the next line loads there. Follow one shipment, rather than assuming that a built warehouse proves the lines are connected.
- Open the warehouse information window. The official gameplay overview shows stock and incoming/outgoing information. Watch whether cargo enters storage and then leaves on the next line. If turnover is immediate, the outgoing vehicle is the stronger success signal.
How to tell it worked
Cargo arrives on the first vehicle and appears on the onward vehicle after the handoff. The warehouse's incoming, stock and outgoing display helps locate the break. A stationary building or an empty platform alone does not demonstrate a working transfer.
If the cargo still stops
- Incoming vehicle empty: check production at the origin, its actual loading point and the first vehicle's cargo category. Start with the pickup checklist.
- Vehicle carries cargo, warehouse receives none: check that the line unloads at this handoff and compare the warehouse's position with the stops. The exact release-build connection range is not established by the available sources.
- Warehouse receives cargo, next vehicle empty: check the outgoing cargo stop, vehicle category and line loading direction. If the warehouse is specialized, check its category.
- Onward vehicle loads, delivery fails: follow that line to the receiving town or industry. The handoff itself is working; troubleshoot the destination separately.
